There are a few particularly memorable spots near Villa Dattier that are worth going out of your way to visit for a café and pain au chocolat or a glass of rosé. Here are our favourites:
29 Quai Jean Jaurès, St Tropez
You can't miss the bright red terrace of this corner café, which remains the place to see and be seen – by locals and celebrities, alike. People-watch over the top of your morning newspaper with a café crème and a slice of Tarte Tropézienne or gather with friends in the evening for Aperol Spritz, as the yachts of the harbour light up.

Domaine du Rayol, Le Jardin des Méditerranées, Rayol-Canadel-sur-Mer
Le Café des Jardins is set in the fragrant, 50 acre Mediterranean Gardens of the Domain du Rayol, an enjoyable 30 minute stroll from Villa Dattier along a pedestrian track. A visit to the gardens is a pleasant way to spend a morning or afternoon when it is not too hot, followed by a peaceful drink or bite to eat in the café.

Quai du Bailli de Suffren, St Tropez
Hotel Sube is an institution of St Tropez, steeped in history and loved by artists and writers including Paul Signac, fauvist Camoin, Manguin, Colette, Apollinaire and Orson Welles. In the mid-80s, it was transformed into a sailors' haven and acts as a 'club lounge' during the annual sailing regatta, Les Voiles de St Tropez. Current owners, Geneviève and Bruno Walther, maintain the traditional feeling of the bar upstairs, from which you can enjoy a coffee throughout the day or watch the sunset if you're lucky to secure a balcony seat.

Quartier de la Bouillabaisse, St Tropez
This truly is the best spot to watch the sunset over panoramic views of the glittering sea, mega yachts and the twinkling lights of St Maxime town across the bay. Relax in the outdoor lounge as the sun disappears behind the hill and guests dance barefoot in the sand after dark.

Hotel de Paris, 1 Traverse de la Gendarmerie, St Tropez
As the only rooftop bar in St Tropez, this is a chic place to sip a cocktail and watch the sun set on the town's iconic bell tower, the port and the bay of yachts. Coffee and light bites are also served throughout the day.

Boulevard de Gigaro, La Croix Valmer
La Pinède Plage is the perfect setting for an evening drink at the water's edge. It also serves as a lovely spot for coffee before a sailing or wind surfing lesson at La Voile Blanche sailing club on the family-friendly Gigaro Beach – or to sit and watch, as you prefer.

Chemin de la Quessine, Ramatuelle
La Réserve has an atmosphere of understated cool, with huge panes of glass overlooking vineyards, hills of pine trees and the sea. Drinks and snacks are served on the terraces and in the lounge area where hotel guests stop for a cocktail in chic, simple beach dresses and crisp linens before getting glam for dinner.
